Nettles - Coventry Road

I saw these nettles in the hedgerow and just liked the way that the sun caught the tops of the young leaves. Its an ordinary everyday scene but I wanted to make something special from it. The pen and ink approach allows plenty of detail and texture and the cross-hatching allows subtle creation of depth and a sense of perspective. Most of this is pen an ink but there are some small areas where I painted ink to get the darkest areas. It is spectacular to see in person because of the level of detail on quite a large drawing.
